Standard or Biodegradable Confetti – the pros and cons!

Should you choose standard confetti (the type that looks great but does make a lot of mess) or biodegradable confetti (the type that will rot down naturally outdoors)? As ever, we’re here to provide the answers you need! Find out everything you need to know before deciding between standard or biodegradable confetti.

Tradition

If you love the thought of a more traditional wedding in which petals are scattered over the happy couple, you can emulate this elegant practice with biodegradable white blossom confetti, a cheaper and more practical option than the equivalent volume of real flower petals.

Expense

If expense is a key consideration for you, you’ll want to get the best value from your confetti. While Biofetti, made from a special material that dissolves when wet, is pricier, tissue confetti, which is also biodegradable, can be a really economical option. Our multi-coloured tissue confetti is a great value biodegradable choice at £18.00 per kilo.

The big clean-up

Nobody enjoys cleaning up after a party. If you’re throwing a big bash outdoors, biodegradable confetti offers one big benefit over its standard counterpart – and that’s the lack of cleaning up you might need to do afterwards! Biofetti, which dissolves on contact with water, and tissue confetti, which is also biodegradable, can both be left to rot into the ground – as long as the landowner is happy for you to do so.

This is great for a private party on your own grounds, but if you’re hiring a venue, do check their policy on this, as confetti left to biodegrade may be considered messy and unsightly for those who come after you. You may have to clear it up anyway!

The environment

If, like most people, you are concerned about minimising your impact on the environment, biodegradable confetti may appeal to you. A perfect choice for couples planning a green wedding, biodegradable confetti is also great for anyone wanting to make an easy, eco-friendly consumer choice. Read more here about how long biodegradable confetti takes to disappear.

If you want to reuse your confetti, standard metallic shapes could also be an environmentally friendly choice. Simply sweep them up and keep them safe until the next party!
